Scots dentist becomes a champion weightlifter just six months after taking up the sport

Scots dentist Apple Doepner has been crowned a champion weightlifter. The 25-year-old won gold as she helped Scotland to victory in a contest in Belfast – just six months after taking up the sport. Apple has worked as a dentist for four years but away from her job she fills her spare time at her local gym where she perfects her squat and bench-press techniques. She said: “It gives me something to chat with the patients about. “If someone mentions they like the gym then I’ll mention I like it and I’ll talk about weightlifting. “If a patient asks me how I will manage to get a tooth out I tell them, ‘Don’t worry, I’m strong.’ “Most of them get quite excited about it.”
